I first trained as a ‘Myers Briggs Type Indicator’ (MBTI) practitioner over 20 years ago. Over that time I’ve used the personality type tool to inform my work coaching individuals and developing leadership teams. Recently, I undertook the training for MBTI Step 2. It’s refreshed my thinking and given me a deeper understanding of the DNA of an individual’s personality. The more in-depth reporting allows me to provide a highly personalised profile and a development plan which can be used for individuals and teams.

Updating my skills has taught me a valuable lesson. During the pandemic I’ve had to flex and adapt to the changing world, adapting my offer to fit changing client needs. The key skills and tools I use each day needed to be sharped and refreshed to ensure they are fit for the new purpose. Whilst it’s great to have decades of practical experience, it’s also invaluable to refresh the theoretical knowledge that underpins the experience.

I think it is critical for leaders and leadership teams take the time to reassess their mindset, leadership style and skills. As we move forward and plan for 2022 and beyond, I think you need to make sure you are honest and open about your own mindset, skills and preferred styles of working. Take the time to make sure you’ve got the most up to date resources possible, and you’re not relying on old information and learning.  As I found, a short training course or reassessment of skills can refresh and inform your thinking.
